The Benefits Of Print Management In Healthcare http://bit.ly/aZbPL7
By Noel O'Dwyer, VP of marketing & strategic alliances, Equitrac Corporation
Healthcare providers and their IT departments are facing pressure from several different areas today. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 changed the way technology needed to be integrated into the healthcare IT infrastructure and put a new emphasis on patient rights and confidentiality. Now, with the passing of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) Act, there are even more incentives for healthcare providers to conform to, and penalties for not. In addition, the current economic environment and the mandate for universal healthcare coverage is pushing providers to find ways to reduce waste, cut costs and find innovative, sustainable, green practices. With these big issues facing healthcare providers today, the question becomes: Is there a way to address regulatory compliance, patient record security, and cost savings with a single solution? The answer is yes, and the solution is intelligent print management software.

The World Series of Poker Academy, the exclusive education partner to the WSOP, announced on Tuesday that they will fill the final seat in the 2010 Tournament of Champions. The Academy, known primarily for their live, hands-on poker seminars held across the country, will hold a single table "sudden-death playoff" tournament on June 10 where the winner will earn their spot in the 2010 Tournament of Champions and be part of the elite 27-player field.
The Tournament of Champions is a freeroll event featuring 27 players. Twenty spots were selected by public vote, five automatic invites were awarded (previous TOC and main event champions) and as part of TOC history, two sponsor exemptions were added to the field. The WSOP Academy holds one sponsor exemption while the other sponsor exemption seat will be awarded on the WSOP's online poker site available to players outside of the United States.

Printing Software Cuts Costs, Paper http://bit.ly/Converge_Magazine
By Tanya Roscorla
Through a software-based reporting system, schools and universities save money and slash the number of pages they print by more than half.
At Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., students could print however much paper they wanted. They would leave paper lying on printers, desk and tables around the main computer lab — the wasted paper filled three huge trash cans next to the printers, said Bryan Palmer, academic computing systems support manager.
“We were always looking for ways to reduce the waste," he said. "We made pleas to the students to pay a little bit more attention to what they’re printing and try to reduce the waste, but in a system where there’s no accountability, you can only get so far.”
Cut waste
Five years ago, the university set up card readers in the lab so students would physically have to swipe their campus card at the printer to officially release documents to be printed. Then, in September 2008, the university installed Equitrac Express, a software-based reporting system that tracks who prints what.

When Love and Work Collide http://bit.ly/8XSFXm
By: Jenny Foughner
In the tumultuous world of amorous entanglements, workplace romance ranks only slightly below getting caught in the Central Park bushes on the list of potentially compromising situations that are usually more trouble than they’re worth. HowEVER, if your profession happens to involve (responsible) betting, (moderate) booze and (occasionally, when you leave the casino) breathtaking locales, falling in love with a much-coveted female colleague is more of a job perk than an occupational hazard. When I chatted with Pokerstars Pro Vanessa Rousso and her husband/fellow Pokerstars Pro Chad Brown at the Mohegan Sun Casino a few weeks ago, they were nice enough to drop some serious knowledge on me about what it’s like to work alongside – and sometimes compete against – your spouse. The good news? Making it work when you work with your partner is all about the r-e-s-p-e-c-t, just like Aretha said. The bad news? Vanessa’s already taken, but if you pack a mean straight flush, then there might be a few other prospects waiting in the wings.

Internet Poker Players Bring Speed, Aggression to Table http://bit.ly/aLmcqG
By Harmon Leon, guest blogger
A new breed of internet poker players who have honed their gambling chops online are facing off against old-school competitors, bringing speed and aggression to the world’s biggest tournaments.
In the movie version of one of these showdowns, Edward Norton could play the role of Daniel Negreanu, a 35-year-old player who sought out backroom card games while mastering poker as a young rounder in Toronto. Ranked second in all-time career earnings, Negreanu has won four World Series of Poker bracelets, as well as two World Poker Tour championship titles.
Negreanu says he thinks players today are better than ever, thanks to the online poker revolution. When he started, he had to play one table at a time. Now young card sharks can play 12, 15, 20 poker tables at once, as well as take advantage of a slew of online tutorials and forums.

KeyBank’s Print Control Outputs Savings http://bit.ly/bZOnMp
by Robin Arnfield
You can't manage what you can't measure, and once you start measuring, things have a way of turning around quickly. That's been Keybank's experience, where recent efforts to track corporate printing down to the employee level has measured up to $2 million in annual savings, a reduction the bank says translates into saving about 70 acres of mature trees annually.
KeyBank's SmartPrint initiative to reduce printer paper and ink usage included the deployment of Equitrac Office, which tracks every print instruction issued by employees and produces a monthly report on their printing usage.
